Over time, one thing that surprises me about the tech world is that as innovation improves with time, we always see a setback and it does not always have to be about product or customer satisfaction.
As a business owner, myself I have seen the lifespan of the businesses getting shorter and the shelf life of the product getting worse every day. One day you see a new product being launched and the next thing you know it is outdated and replaced by something better. In such a competitive world of technology, if you hold back in terms of updating, you are committing suicide.
However, if you become over-ambitious pushing for innovation at such a fast pace that, your product is substandard and at the expense of burnout, you are committing a graver sin. McKinsey reports that over the years, the average lifespan of a business has shrunk from 61 years to 18 years.
Most tech experts believe that it is mainly because there are more players in the business game than ever. Thanks to the easy access to the internet and seamless connectivity offered by big internet brands like Cox at exceptionally affordable rates, everyone can become a business owner. You can reach Cox customer service and a representative will be there to guide you 24/7.
As there is a level playing field, you will see small businesses making it big within a few months and replacing some of the biggest names in the industry. Currently one of the biggest names in the tech world is Google. Almost all tech companies, big or small look up to Google because of its innovation.
What is happening at Google?
Over the years, Google has built its reputation because of the finest products in the market, good service, and a huge database that offers them an edge. Moreover, they have so many products and services that most people do not even realize they are using Google. From Gmail to Google Drive, Google Docs, and now Google Bard, you will notice more active products than ever.
However, this does not mean Google has never added some graves in the ever-expanding tech graveyard. So far, Google has so many dead projects lined up that it will take you a few days to count but currently google is in the worst shape. Firing, dead projects, and skilling ongoing ideas are becoming routine.
According to a recent update, google along with YouTube has banned unionization, which resulted in firing people. This is not the only thing that is pointing out the downfall of Google; the company has silently killed a lot of projects leaving many employees jobless. To make matters worse, the innovation department of the company is pushing people to redeliver resulting in burnout just to push products.
The Company Culture Is Hitting Rock Bottom
Most of the employees have complained that this is the lowest point for Google as firing and killing projects have become routine. To put things into perspective, during the first month of the year, Google fired more than 12,000 employees. Moreover, Google is attempting to get into the woke culture and rewrite history. So far, they have tried their diversity card with their CEO and now with tech as well.
Recently, their ongoing product Gemini gained a lot of attention for its absurd, racist, and rather confusing remarks. When asked about Nazis and World War 2, Gemini responded that Nazis were people of color. Gemini is a text and image generation tool proudly presented by Google and so far, it has gained a lot of negative press due to its problematic responses on multiple things. While this has raised a lot of eyebrows in the tech culture, the voices about ousting the current Indian CEO are becoming louder than ever.
Google on Repeating Mistakes
Back when AI was first introduced in tech, google was one of the biggest advocates and Pichai was hoping for something more innovative as the oldest player in the game. However, soon after OpenAI started realizing good and reliable AI tools one after another. This only made matters worse for Google pushing them to release something that can help them to maintain their reputation. However, within just a few days, the company released its AI tool, Bard.
Bard on its release had a similar malfunction resulting in a major loss, and pushing Google off the cliff. Since then, every AI effort related to Google has somehow landed them in a pit. According to experts, Google needs to focus on what it does best, give the company some time to perfect the design, and then release the product. Moreover, running after an ambush when you are not ready will land you in an endless pit of loss.
Previously we have seen the same trend in other companies, especially Yahoo. Yahoo was known to bite more than it could chew; they were releasing too many products and not perfecting one product. This is a similar case with Google, which means it might be heading the same way.
Wrap Up
While Google might seem like it heading toward failure, we can all agree that it is too big to fail at this point. The only way to improve the company and ensure overall company stability is to focus on perfecting and quality assurance so the product is better and justifies the tag of a mighty company like Google.
