Most of our lives are spent indoors. Our daily activities include sitting in an office with the harsh fluorescent lights shining down on us, driving back and forth to work, and sitting around the house trying to relax after a hard day of work in the office. While joining a health club is an excellent way to ensure that you have a healthy physique, it isn’t the best way to rejuvenate your mind with the fresh air and sunshine. By taking your physical activities outside, you have a unique opportunity to obtain a physical workout and a mental rejuvenation experience all at the same time.

There is a huge difference between running on a treadmill and running on a trail. The uneven terrain of the trail will work your stabilizer muscles, and the change of scenery will work to keep your mind from getting bored, which is a major problem for those who work out indoors. If you are looking for a change in your physical activities, why not change the four walls of the health club for a change of open skies? The following are three physical activities that will give you a great physical workout while you connect with nature.

1. Paddle Out for Upper Body Strength

Water sports are an excellent way to obtain a physical workout without stressing your joints with running or weightlifting. They are excellent for developing your upper body strength as well as your stomach muscles. The water will provide a lot of resistance so that your workout will not be for naught.

Another challenge that comes with swimming in open waters comes from the waves. Before engaging in swimming, however, safety comes first. It is important to check the weather conditions and the current state of the water. A good quality life jacket should also not be forgotten, even if you are a good swimmer. A paddle of appropriate size and a dry bag for carrying valuables are the basic requirements for this exercise.

2. Walk the Fairways for Endurance

Golfing is a game that is commonly stereotyped as a hobby for the elderly. Although this may be true to some extent as retirees have more free time, it should be noted that this game is extremely good for health for all ages (if done the right way). In order to get the most out of this exercise, however, it is important that you forego using the electric cart. Golfing an 18-hole course is equivalent to walking five to seven miles. This is a good exercise for boosting heart rates and burning those unwanted calories.

To make this exercise even tougher, you could consider carrying your golfing gear. Golfing is a mentally taxing exercise because you need to be extremely focused if you are to get the most out of this exercise. The scenery of a golf course like the Quarry/Preserve golf course is extremely relaxing. This is a plus because you are likely to reduce your heart rates due to this relaxing environment.

3. Set Up Camp for Total Immersion

A long day of hiking, kayaking, or even golfing will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature when night falls. While the activity may seem to be enjoyable and easy, camping is a series of processes that involve physical coordination. Hauling camping equipment, setting up a tent, and collecting firewood are some of the processes that involve physical coordination.

The first step in the entire process of camping is to select a good campsite. While selecting the campsite, it should be ensured that the site provides a flat surface for pitching the tent and also a source of water if you want to collect the water yourself. It should also not be forgotten to carry a checklist to avoid forgetting important items such as a sleeping bag according to the temperature and a sleeping pad. 

Camping also gives the advantage of resetting the body’s circadian rhythm and being separated from the world of technology that tries to keep you connected at all times.

The above activities show that fitness does not necessarily require a dedicated space for the activity. Whether you are paddling a kayak or paddle board, walking through a golf course, climbing a mountain, or pitching a campsite, you are doing your body and mind a great service.
